Indoor Photo Challenge – Feb. 25th

The last meeting before spring break, I asked people to bring in objects for a photo challenge. There really wasn’t much of a challenge, but people brought in plenty of objects, and we had quite a successful photo shoot with what we had. Items included a teddy bear, a cut glass bowl, card decks, balls of yarn, incense, and some other stuff. See our table of loot:

Spot a few of our photos on our flickr page! I hope you all enjoyed spring break, maybe took a few photos. If you did, feel free to share them on our page linked above.

Meeting Notes 2-18

Not much happened this week because we have our first Winter Photo Shoot this weekend!

Meet in Kirkhof at 3:30pm we’ll get on the 50 bus and head to Pew Campus in downtown GR. From there we’ll head wherever we feel like and wait for sunset and dark and then head back.  If you are meeting us downtown, we expect to arrive between 4-4:15. Join the facebook event!

Active Assignment Weekly:

This week assignment is Clouds! Now come on, how easy is that? Take a photo of  clouds and submit it to the flickr group.

And don’t forget about the monthly assignment is “The Bard” which goes until March 1st. Click the link to find the list of the top 25 Shakespeare quotes to use as your photo’s title or inspiration.

Second Meeting Notes 1-28

This week we went through a lot of websites and talked about some of our favorite photographers too.

Flickr stuff:

  • Please only post 5 photos a week on the club’s flickr group
  • Active Assignment Weekly was an interesting flickr group that was brought up so check it out
  • Someone brought up a guy with great pictures on flickr – BURИBLUE
  • Flickr has a video section!
  • If you want to learn more about a picture on flickr, just scroll down and on the right column there be  “More Properties.” Click on that and you can see more detailed info about the photograph’s properties.

Other Websites:

  • Moo.com if you haven’t already checked it out.
  • We were thinking that once we get funding that we could advertise for the club on the mini moo cards
  • Dpreview.com is a great site – it has a compare feature and a buying guide. You can’t buy from the site, but it generally will give you a link to somewhere you can.
  • Diyphotography.net has links and creative ideas for a bunch of things

Photo Shoot ideas:

  • light painting – (see BURИBLUE’s flickr)
  • star photography
  • taking photos downtown
  • maybe a winter shoot if you guys are willing to be really cold

This is still in the works, but we were thinking of having a contest to see who can take the best picture of lightning. No past pictures. There will be a small prize of some sort, but this contest is more for the challenge. If you have a better idea for a contest let us know and we will consider it.
